Our Mission
Simmons’ Office of Community Outreach, Engagement, and Equity strives to reduce the cancer burden in North Texas and promote equity in cancer prevention, care, and outcomes through research, education, and engagement.
To accomplish our mission, we keep watch on public health and cancer trends. We host listening sessions to understand our community's cancer needs and concerns. And we incorporate community perspectives in our research efforts.
In turn, we offer the following programs and services aimed at promoting optimal community health:
- A free Speakers Bureau made up of experts who can share the latest information about cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship
- Online tips for managing your health and cancer risks
- Mobile cancer screenings and free events
- Survivorship support for those who’ve been diagnosed with cancer
- Nicotine cessation clinics to help people stop smoking or vaping
- A Cancer Answer Line to connect community members with cancer resources, including clinical trials and free or low-cost services for those who qualify
