UT Southwestern Medical Center radiologists use a variety of specialized imaging technologies to diagnose, treat, and monitor a wide range of pediatric medical conditions.

Our dynamic and innovative radiology service is committed to achieving the highest standards of patient care and staying on the leading edge of new developments and clinical applications in the ever-changing field of medical imaging.

Specialized Imaging for Infants, Children, and Adolescents

Advanced imaging enables our experienced radiologists to look inside children’s bodies, often eliminating the need for exploratory surgery.

UT Southwestern’s Pediatric Imaging Program provides comprehensive imaging and diagnostic services for infants, children, and adolescents with a range of medical concerns and conditions.

Our advanced imaging technologies allow our physicians to make the most accurate diagnoses and prescribe targeted treatments and therapies.

All of our imaging equipment is specially calibrated for pediatric patients so they avoid excessive radiation exposure.

In addition, our pediatric imaging specialists and staff are trained to help alleviate children’s fears, and our full-time child-life specialists are devoted to working with pediatric radiology patients.

Much of our program is housed in the outpatient radiology center at Children’s Health.

Pediatric Imaging Services

We offer our pediatric imaging services at two locations:

Children’s Health

• Interventional radiology/vascular imaging: A nonsurgical alternative to complex vascular and lymphatic malformations
• Digital fluoroscopy: Used with radiation-limiting techniques and software, as well as state-of-the-art magnetic resonance (MR) technology, for investigating abnormalities of cerebrospinal fluid flow, brain perfusion and function, seizures and metabolic disorders, diffusion tensor imaging, and fiber tracking
• Nonsurgical treatment alternatives for some conditions
• A picture-archiving communication (PAC) system, which eliminates the need for traditional film X-rays
• Four magnetic resonance (MR) units
• Pediatric computed tomography (CT) scanning
• Nuclear medicine and positron emission tomography (PET)
• Combined PET/CT imaging
• Pediatric fluoroscopy
• Pediatric MRI
• Prenatal and fetal MRI

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials can give patients access to leading-edge imaging technologies that are not yet widely available. Eligible patients who choose to participate in one of UT Southwestern’s clinical trials might benefit from imaging technologies years before they are available to the public.
