UT Southwestern Medical Center's Division of Pediatric Nephrology provides outpatient and inpatient consultation for Children's Medical Center Dallas. A pediatric nephrologist is always available to evaluate and treat patients with renal abnormalities, including child hypertension and kidney stones. The clinical expertise of the nephrology physicians encompasses all aspects of renal disease and fluid and electrolyte abnormalities.
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology also provides renal replacement therapy in patients from birth through adolescence. A hemodialysis unit and a training program for home peritoneal dialysis are staffed by nephrology nurses. In addition, the division staff includes a social worker, a dietitian, and a child life specialist.
The pediatric nephrology division performs approximately 12 renal transplants each year, making it one of the nation’s largest pediatric centers for the treatment of end-stage renal disease in children.
U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital 2023-2024 list ranks our pediatric nephrology program No. 16 in the nation.
