Biography
Alvin Chandra, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Chandra received his initial medical training at UT Southwestern, where he earned his medical degree, performed an internal medicine residency, and completed a general cardiology fellowship. He then received advanced training in cardio-oncology through an additional fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, followed by a research fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he returned to UT Southwestern, joining the faculty in 2019.
Dr. Chandra is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, the European Society of Cardiology, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and the American College of Cardiology. He has served as a reviewer for several journals, including Circulation, European Heart Journal, and Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. He also serves on the cardiac events classification committee for the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL).
He has delivered presentations internationally and published several academic articles. His research has focused on improving quality of life in patients with heart disease, as well as on primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on the cancer population.
