Biography
Ann E. Lutich, M.D., was born and raised in Arizona. Following family tradition, she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson for her degree in Nutritional Science/Biochemistry followed by a Medical Degree, graduating in 1986. She completed her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency training at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1990 and became a private practitioner in Dallas.
Dr. Lutich joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011 and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She practiced general obstetrics and gynecology until 2019, and then transitioned to a gynecology practice as the Medical Director of the Lowe Foundation for Women’s Preventative Health Care. She continues to practice medicine full time offering well-woman care as well as evaluation and treatment of gynecologic problems with a specialization in minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery.
Despite her high-tech expertise, Dr. Lutich takes a whole-patient approach to care, a philosophy she attributes in part to having attended the medical school influenced by holistic physician Andrew Weil, M.D.
“You can't just treat a disease,” Dr. Lutich points out. “You've got to look at the patient, see what's going on in her life and her mental state. Everything needs to be put into context.”
D Magazine named Dr. Lutich one of the Best Doctors in Dallas in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2014-2022.
Meet Dr. Lutich
Gynecologic Surgery Specialist
When Ann E. Lutich, M.D., does minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery on patients who have complex ovarian cysts, fibroids, or endometriosis, she sometimes uses a robot for assistance. With its perfectly steady “hands” and high magnification, the robot allows her to work with a delicate touch and in fine detail. Laparoscopic and robotic surgery offer less blood loss and better wound healing, especially in larger women.
“The surgeon causes the robotic arms and instruments to move in the direction that he or she wants,” Dr. Lutich explains. “The beauty of this type of surgery is that the patient has minimal pain afterward and is typically able to go home that very day.”
Even without robotic assistance, Dr. Lutich performs most hysterectomies with laparoscopy’s small incisions. “Women are able to get back to their usual business within a couple of weeks,” she says. “This is not your mother's hysterectomy.”
Dr. Lutich has practiced in the Dallas area for more than 30 years. "The most satisfying aspect of medicine for me is being a part of patients’ lives and seeing them year after year – knowing how they’re doing, and how their families are doing. I'm starting to see the baby girls that I delivered as patients, which is very rewarding,” Dr. Lutich says. “I love being part of the Dallas community.”
In addition to advanced gynecologic surgery, Dr. Lutich offers an array of alternatives to surgery. She also offers hormone evaluations for women who are experiencing or are past menopause.
