Dr. Shah holds a bachelor's degree in biology, biomedical engineering, and philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his medical degree through the combined training program at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, and received his radiology residency training at Boston Medical Center in Boston. He then obtained advanced training through a two-year National Institutes of Health-funded T-32 fellowship program at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California, during which time he also completed a biomedical device innovation program. He subsequently completed a fellowship program in neuroradiology at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago.
Before joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017, Dr. Shah began his career as an attending neuroradiologist at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis.
His primary research interests include transcranial focused ultrasound (FUS) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and brain tumors, nerve stimulation to improve limb function after stroke, and biomedical device innovation. He has an active collaboration with the biomedical engineering department at the University of Texas at Dallas.
