Biography
Dan (Amanda) Tong, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology.
Dr. Tong received her medical degree from the Tongji Medical College in China and her doctorate from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. She completed internal medicine residency training at the University of Iowa, followed by advanced training through a cardiology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Tong’s research is focused on the molecular mechanisms of HFpEF and AF. Her investigations have resulted in 26 publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributions to one book chapter. Additionally, she has presented her findings at scientific conferences throughout the United States and around the world.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern Faculty in 2021.
As a physician-scientist, her research and clinical interests are focused on cardiovascular conditions that are tightly associated with metabolic diseases, particularly heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and atrial fibrillation.
Dr. Tong is active in several professional societies, including the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
Personal Note
Dr. Tong’s interests outside of medicine include her family, cooking, and reading.
