Growing in Breadth and Depth

At UT Southwestern, members of our Cardiology Division – myself included – always look forward to the annual AHA Scientific Sessions. We enjoy hearing about the latest advances in the field and, just as importantly, sharing the results of our own discoveries and research, some of which are highlighted in the pages of this publication.

It’s vitally important that we are actively engaged in the Sessions each year to help fulfill our duties as a leading academic medical center devoted to learning, teaching, discovery, and the delivery of leading-edge clinical care.

Our dedication to providing the very best in cardiology can be seen in our growing clinical and research focus as well as in the breadth of our multidisciplinary teams that treat a vast array of conditions, ranging from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, sarcoidosis, and amyloidosis – among many others – to the entire spectrum of cardiovascular care, including heart failure, cardiac arrest, and cardiogenic shock.

The back of this publication lists the members of our Cardiology team at UT Southwestern, along with their areas of expertise. That team continues to grow in both number and stature. In September, Maryjane Farr, M.D., joined UT Southwestern as Professor of Medicine and Section Chief of Heart Failure, VAD, and Transplant. Previously, she directed the Adult Heart Transplant Program at Columbia University Irving Medical Center for six years.

I also note that, once again, a UT Southwestern cardiologist earned a national award during the recent Scientific Sessions – the fourth consecutive year a UTSW physician has been honored. This year, it was James P. MacNamara, M.D., previously one of our Cardiology fellows and now on our faculty, who earned the Samuel A. Levine Early Career Clinical Investigator Award. His work is included in this publication.
