U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals - Rehabilitation

Nationally Ranked in Rehabilitation

UT Southwestern Medical Center is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s top 15 hospitals for rehabilitative care.

Using the latest technologies and advancements in rehabilitation medicine, UT Southwestern’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team helps patients achieve their highest possible level of physical, functional, and cognitive independence after an injury or illness.

We specialize in care and treatment for patients with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, concussions, pelvic floor dysfunction, spasticity, strokes, musculoskeletal injuries, and other debilitating conditions.

Our board-certified physicians and a team of physical therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

Our goal is to work with patients to strengthen muscles and increase flexibility to alleviate pain and improve quality of life without resorting to surgery or long-term medication.

Successful rehabilitation requires a dedicated commitment to your program of recovery. We offer appointments starting as early as 7 a.m. to help you maintain your daily schedule and maximize your rehabilitation experience.

Some of the conditions and treatments we focus on include:

Preparing for Your Appointment

To make the most of your time with the doctor, prepare a list of questions ahead of time and bring it to your appointment.

On the day of the appointment, please arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for parking and registration. We do our best to see patients at their scheduled appointment time.

Please bring the following items:

  • Current insurance card
  • Identification
  • Method of payment
  • Current medications
  • Any records from other evaluations, including neuroimaging
  • Completed paperwork, if you received forms before the visit

To facilitate ongoing communication, we recommend patients sign up with MyChart, which allows patients to communicate directly with doctors, request prescription refills, update contact information, view test results, and request clinic appointments. Sign in to or sign up for MyChart. You also will be able to complete pre-check in and complete forms and questionnaires assigned to you by your provider.

Canceling an Appointment

If you need to cancel your appointment, please notify the center at least 48 hours in advance so that we can accommodate other patients waiting to schedule an appointment.

Prescriptions and Refills

It is very important that you do not run out of your medication. Be sure that you have sufficient refills to last until your next appointment with your provider. Most prescriptions are refilled electronically. If you run out of refills, please call your pharmacy and your pharmacist will fax a refill request to us. Ideally, requests should be made 7 days before your medication runs out. Please allow us 24 to 48 hours to process refill requests.
