First CME courses of 2017 focus on GI, neuromuscular, and bone diseases
Providing lifelong learning opportunities for health care professionals is integral to UT Southwestern’s mission. Continuing medical education (CME) courses offered through UT Southwestern’s Office of Continuing Medical Education are designed to keep physicians, Ph.D.s, and allied health professionals at the leading edge of medicine.
In addition to fulfilling mandatory CME requirements for physicians, the activities are designed to improve the knowledge and professional performance of health care professionals within and beyond UT Southwestern, as well as to address identified priorities in quality and patient safety with the goal of improving the outcomes of patients’ health.

What’s New in GI 2017?
Designed for gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, internists, and family practice physicians with an interest in gastroenterology and hepatology, this program will provide attendees with the newest treatment approaches for GI disease and disorders, focusing in part on how to determine when to select medical therapy versus endoscopic therapy for Barrett’s esophagus, management of difficult pancreaticobiliary interventional cases, and how to recognize symptoms and use current data to establish diagnosis and formulate the appropriate treatment plan. In addition, an ethics presentation will discuss how to identify various health care disparities in GI disorders.

39th Annual Carrell-Krusen Neuromuscular Symposium (RP1702C)
During this two-day meeting, designed specifically for primary care providers, neurologists, NPs, PAs, and RNs who desire to gain advanced knowledge in the diagnosis and management of patients with neuromuscular disease, attendees will participate in lively discussions around interesting and challenging patients and learn to formulate protocols for treatment and management of both common and unusual neuromuscular disorders. After this symposium, participants will be able to identify characteristic findings on muscle biopsies and electrophysiologic studies and describe recent advances in research on neuromuscular disorders

Bones and Stones: The 2017 Update in Mineral Metabolism (RP1703G)
Ideal for health care providers interested in the care of patients with bone-related diseases and mineral metabolism issues, this course will concentrate on gaps in medical knowledge existing in clinical practice to overcome barriers in management of primary and secondary osteoporosis as well as on the latest understanding of the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms and clinical management of hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia, and kidney stone disease.
