If pelvic pain has you floored, there's no need to suffer anymore.
Disorders of the pelvic floor —the web of muscles that supports the bladder, bowel, and in women, the vagina — affect millions of people, often compromising their quality of life. Among the problems sufferers can face: urinary and fecal incontinence, overactive bladder, chronic pelvic and tailbone pain, chronic constipation, and even sexual dysfunction.
A new Pelvic Floor Disorders Program at UT Southwestern offers relief from the pain, discomfort, and inconvenience.
“Several things can contribute to pelvic floor disorders, including aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes, and injuries,” says Joseph Schaffer, M.D., Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of Female Pelvic Medicine and reconstructive Surgery. “We offer a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, as well as nonsurgical, surgical, and robotic treatment options for these disorders.”
The Program also offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs that treat pelvic-related conditions in a thorough, conservative manner.
A multidisciplinary team of specialists, including experts in urogynecology, colon and rectal surgery, gastroenterology, urology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, works closely to facilitate care. Specialists in other fields such as psychiatry and radiology are also available if needed.
