Biography
Amil M. Shah, M.D., M.P.H., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. An expert in cardiac imaging and echocardiography, he serves as the Director of both the Population Sciences and the Dallas Hearts and Minds Study.
Dr. Shah earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He gained advanced training in cardiology, echocardiography, and internal medicine through a clinical fellowships at Tufts-New England Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School, respectively. He also holds a Master of Public Health in clinical effectiveness from Harvard.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023. Previously he was an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and served at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a member of the Cardiovascular Division and Director of its Cardiac Imaging Core Laboratory.
Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Heart Failure Society of America and a member of the American Society of Echocardiography.
His research interests include cardiovascular medicine, cardiac imaging, and heart health, and his research is funded primarily by the National Institutes of Health. He has delivered numerous invited presentations and lectures, both nationally and internationally, contributed to multiple books, and published more than 200 academic articles related to his areas of expertise.
