Postoperative delirium in seniors: Recognizing the symptoms, reducing the risks

Sarah A. Wingfield, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in geriatric medicine and is the Director of UT Southwestern’s Perioperative Optimization of Senior Health (POSH) Program, as well as an attending geriatrics physician at UTSW hospitals.
Dr. Wingfield earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern. She completed an internal medicine residency, a geriatric medicine fellowship, and an advanced geriatric physician fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. She also holds a degree in chemistry from Trinity University.
A UT Southwestern faculty member since 2016, Dr. Wingfield is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and geriatric medicine.
Her research interests include the perioperative care of older adults and new models of care. She has delivered a number of invited lectures.
She is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, among other professional organizations.
In 2019 and 2020, Dr. Wingfield was named a Texas Monthly Super Doctor Rising Star.
