Pharmacy Services

Pharmacy Patients,

We want to inform you of an incident that is temporarily impacting the way patients pay for prescriptions at UT Southwestern Retail and Specialty pharmacies. Like many pharmacies across the country, our pharmacies were impacted by the cyberattack on Change Healthcare – a prescription insurance processing company. We are not aware of any medical, financial, or personal information that has been compromised; however, UT Southwestern has proactively and temporarily cut the connection with the vendor as a precaution to reduce any security risk for the Medical Center and our patients.

The service disruption is currently affecting the processing of payments through insurance plans at all UTSW pharmacies. (About 65,000 pharmacies nationwide are also impacted.) While UTSW pharmacies are able to receive and fill prescription orders from your provider, here is some important information and options to complete processing:

  • Patients may pay a discounted cash price and submit receipts for reimbursement to their prescription benefit plans.
  • Patients may have their prescriptions transferred to another pharmacy of their choosing. We do recommend patients contact these pharmacies prior to the transfer to assess the pharmacy’s ability to process claims.
  • If the prescription is a refill, the copay will remain the same as previously charged. Once the vendor is secure and operational, we will reprocess the prescription through the patient’s prescription insurance to obtain the correct copay.

We appreciate your patience.

Please call your preferred UTSW pharmacy for more information.

UT Southwestern Medical Center’s pharmacy team offers expertise, convenience, and a personal touch that you won’t find at other pharmacies. We’re focused on fulfilling your medication needs safely and quickly.
